Why does home cooking taste best, and why are our mum's tomato soup and beef stew better than all the others ? Mum's cooking is the food we grew up with. They are tried and tested recipes, often untouched by modern trends. We still eat this food at home, enjoying it time and again. There is nobody who does not appreciate their mum's cooking.

A true representation
This book is a homage to our mothers and their cuisine. We want to record their recipes for the future. In doing so, we don't gloss over anything, either in words, recipes or photographs. This book is a true representation of how our mothers cook, unadorned by modern styling and photographed on their own china and tablecloths. Just like it is. For this book,
we spoke to 40 mothers all over Belgium and shared their food.

Belgian culinary heritage
There exists a Belgian culinary heritage which has been maintained by our mothers for several generations. Many of these recipes are handed down from mother to daughter. They keep a tradition and link to the past alive, something which does not receive enough attention these days. Chicory and ham rolls in a cheese sauce, hotpot and vegetable mash, beef stew, mince-based dishes, rabbit with prunes, rice pudding and apple tart: these dishes are eaten both in Flanders and in Wallonia.
This book contains 120 authentic recipes from Flemish and Wallonian mothers. They are true classics which will give you a good idea of what is 'mum's kitchen'.
